Criminal Law

Have you been charged or think you will be charged by the police for an offence?

Brendan Manning has extensive experience regarding criminal matters as a former police prosecutor and solicitor, including Assault, Apprehended Violence Orders (AVOs), Apprehended Domestic Violence Orders (ADVOs), Firearms & Police, and Traffic matters (see Traffic). Brendan represents clients at court and has long-term associations with barristers who specialise in criminal matters and ADVOs when their services are needed.

Brendan also drafts representations to the police, seeking the withdrawal of criminal charges and ADVOs without the necessity of a court hearing.

There are many occasions where written representations can be made to the police where charges against a person can be withdrawn without the need to attend court or run a hearing.

If you have been charged by the police or received a notice from the police, or even if you suspect that the police may wish to talk to you about a criminal matter, you should seek legal advice before you say or do anything. Once you have spoken to the police whatever you have said may be used against you in a court of law.

Attending court without legal representation often results in a greater penalty than you would otherwise have received. This is especially true in Drink Drive matters (PCA or DUI) and other serious traffic offences. The loss of licence for a significant period can often be avoided if you receive proper legal advice before the matter is before the court.
